Exports in Central Asia

For the tenth year in a row, Central Asia recorded growth in overseas shipments of photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes, which increased by 16% to X units in 2021. Overall, exports saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, photographic flashbulb exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

The biggest shipments were from Kazakhstan (X units), together amounting to 100% of total export.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes exports, with a CAGR of +15.4% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest photographic flashbulb supplier in Central Asia.

Imports in Central Asia

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes increased by 304% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw strong growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, photographic flashbulb imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Uzbekistan was the largest importer of photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes in Central Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X units, which was near 81% of total imports in 2021. Kyrgyzstan (X units) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (7.1%).

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes imports, with a CAGR of +32.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-3.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+63 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-7.3 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (-19.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes in Central Asia, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 11% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Uzbekistan totaled +22.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (-18.5% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-4.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price faced a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 56%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (-7.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
