Plastic Household Ware Market Size in Central Asia

In 2021, the Central Asian plastic household ware market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Central Asia

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of plastics household articles and toilet articles, when their volume decreased by -70.8% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 731% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household ware exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 259% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Turkmenistan represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 53% of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (16%) and Kyrgyzstan (6.4%).

Turkmenistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plastics household articles and toilet articles exports, with a CAGR of +50.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+24.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-9.7%) and Uzbekistan (-38.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkmenistan (+47 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+24 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+4.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-74.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest plastic household ware supplier in Central Asia, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkmenistan ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 6.5% share.

In Uzbekistan, plastic household ware exports expanded at an average annual rate of +31.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkmenistan (+36.1% per year) and Kazakhstan (+17.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 382% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a prominent increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Turkmenistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+112.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, imports of plastics household articles and toilet articles in Central Asia surged to X tons, rising by 48% on 2020. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +53.0% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic household ware imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +87.2% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the major importer of plastics household articles and toilet articles, mixing up 56% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mongolia (17%) and Tajikistan (4.7%). Turkmenistan (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tajikistan (+19.7%), Mongolia (+14.4%) and Kyrgyzstan (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +19.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-3.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mongolia (+7.6 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkmenistan (-4 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (-8.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plastics household articles and toilet articles in Central Asia, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 9.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with an 8.1% share.

In Kazakhstan, plastic household ware imports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kyrgyzstan (+7.0% per year) and Mongolia (+10.8% per year).
