The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, non-cellular polyethylene film exports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 235% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Kazakhstan (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons) represented the major exporters of non-cellular polyethylene films, sheets, foil and strip in 2021, amounting to approx. 48% and 39% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), making up a 12% share of total exports.

Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 51%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Kazakhstan dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 67% of total imports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a 9.7% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mongolia (7.2%), Kyrgyzstan (6.6%) and Tajikistan (5.8%). Turkmenistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-cellular polyethylene film imports into Kazakhstan stood at +6.0%. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+6.9%), Mongolia (+6.7%), Tajikistan (+6.2%) and Uzbekistan (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +6.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-3.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +9.7 percentage points. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 7.7% share.

In Kazakhstan, non-cellular polyethylene film imports increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+14.0% per year) and Mongolia (+9.2% per year).
