In 2022, the Central Asian non-rolled bitumen products market increased by 0.3% to $X, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. The shipments of the two major exporters of non-rolled bitumen products, namely Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +28.7%).

In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +16.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review.

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 107% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+7.2%).

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, imports of non-rolled bitumen products in Central Asia reduced sharply to X tons, with a decrease of -25.4% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports showed a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 75%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, non-rolled bitumen products imports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 80%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 42% of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) took a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (17%), Kyrgyzstan (13%) and Mongolia (6.2%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-rolled bitumen products imports into Kazakhstan stood at -3.5%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+24.5%), Tajikistan (+4.9%), Mongolia (+4.0%) and Kyrgyzstan (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +24.5% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia increased by +17, +9.2, +3.9 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-rolled bitumen products in Central Asia, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with an 11% share.

In Kazakhstan, non-rolled bitumen products imports shrank by an average annual rate of -2.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+13.6% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-3.7% per year).

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced reduction.
