For the sixth year in a row, Central Asia recorded growth in shipments abroad of radar apparatus, which increased by 41% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 121% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, radar apparatus exports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 101%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) represented roughly 84% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkmenistan (X kg), committing a 14% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +117.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest radar apparatus supplier in Central Asia, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkmenistan ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 1.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan stood at +9.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkmenistan (+4.1% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+19.9% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per kg, waning by -34.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 57% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per kg. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per kg), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, the amount of radar apparatus imported in Central Asia shrank remarkably to X tons, dropping by -25.4% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a noticeable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 79%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, radar apparatus imports fell dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a pronounced expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 193% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Kazakhstan represented the largest importer of radar apparatus in Central Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 87% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkmenistan (X tons), constituting an 11% share of total imports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the radar apparatus imports, with a CAGR of +4.7% from 2012 to 2021. Turkmenistan (-6.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (+12 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkmenistan (-13.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
