Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the railway or tramway coaches (self-propelled) exports, with a CAGR of +8.6% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest self-propelled railway coach supplier in Central Asia.

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, waning by -9.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 30%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, overseas purchases of railway or tramway coaches (self-propelled) increased by 26% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 726% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, self-propelled railway coach imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 348% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 88% of total imports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Mongolia (X tons). All these countries together held near 10% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to self-propelled railway coach imports into Kazakhstan stood at +10.1%. At the same time, Mongolia (+55.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +55.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-25.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kazakhstan and Mongolia increased by +55 and +4.9 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported railway or tramway coaches (self-propelled) in Central Asia, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports.
In Kazakhstan, self-propelled railway coach imports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (-21.1% per year) and Mongolia (+35.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -39.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 112%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+6.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
