The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. In 2021, overseas shipments of raw hides and skins of cattle increased by 115% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 238%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cattle hide and skin exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a abrupt slump. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Turkmenistan was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 39% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 22% share, followed by Kazakhstan (22%) and Mongolia (16%).

In value terms, Turkmenistan ($X) remains the largest cattle hide and skin supplier in Central Asia, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 9.5% share.

In Turkmenistan, cattle hide and skin exports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (-8.8% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-17.2% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -17.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a tangible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 161% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of raw hides and skins of cattle increased by 68% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a dramatic curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 4,153% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cattle hide and skin imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 1,546%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Kyrgyzstan prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 90% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), committing a 7.3% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to cattle hide and skin imports into Kyrgyzstan stood at -30.8%. Kazakhstan (-18.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+5.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kyrgyzstan saw its share reduced by -7.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
