Razor Market Size in Central Asia
In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Central Asian razor market, when its value decreased by -6.7% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Razor Production in Central Asia
In value terms, razor production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 23%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.
Razor Exports
Exports in Central Asia
In 2021, razor exports in Central Asia surged to X tons, with an increase of 30% compared with 2020. Overall, exports, however, recorded a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 721% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, razor exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 652% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together generating 98% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X kg) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +156.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021.
Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +163.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -11.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded noticeable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 102%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+5.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Razor Imports
Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, purchases abroad of razors decreased by -1.6% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -11.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, razor imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan was the main importer of razors in Central Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 49% of total imports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Turkmenistan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons). All these countries together took near 50% share of total imports. Mongolia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Kazakhstan decreased at an average annual rate of -2.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+25.0%), Turkmenistan (+14.2%), Mongolia (+13.8%) and Tajikistan (+10.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +25.0% from 2012-2021. Kyrgyzstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Uzbekistan (+15 p.p.), Turkmenistan (+7.9 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+4.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -2.5% and -26% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported razors in Central Asia, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 12% share.
In Kazakhstan, razor imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+26.1% per year) and Tajikistan (+7.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
