Reclaimed Rubber Market Size in Central Asia

After four years of growth, the Central Asian reclaimed rubber market decreased by -2.2% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +66.3% against 2016 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, reclaimed rubber production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +73.6% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Central Asia

Reclaimed rubber exports fell markedly to X tons in 2021, waning by -52.1% against the year before. In general, exports recorded a dramatic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 300% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, reclaimed rubber exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a sharp reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 222%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the largest exporter of reclaimed rubber in Central Asia, making up 100% of total export.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the reclaimed rubber exports, with a CAGR of -26.8% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest reclaimed rubber supplier in Central Asia.

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6.9% against the previous year. Export price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, overseas purchases of reclaimed rubber increased by 3.4% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +98.9% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 53%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, reclaimed rubber imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 204% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 82% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkmenistan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons), together committing a 14% share of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +22.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+41.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +41.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-2.8%) and Uzbekistan (-9.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan increased by +62, +6.1 and +3.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported reclaimed rubber in Central Asia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkmenistan ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 12% share.

In Kazakhstan, reclaimed rubber imports expanded at an average annual rate of +12.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkmenistan (-6.3% per year) and Uzbekistan (-7.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 9.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 98%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
