Kazakhstan dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 92% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Kyrgyzstan (X units) and Uzbekistan (X units) - together made up 6.6% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to relay exports from Kazakhstan stood at +29.0%. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+52.7%) and Uzbekistan (+28.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +52.7% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan increased by +3.3, +2.5 and +1.9 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest relay supplier in Central Asia, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with an 8.2% share of total exports.

In Kazakhstan, relay exports increased at an average annual rate of +27.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+51.0% per year) and Uzbekistan (-40.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -24.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit), while Uzbekistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (-1.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of relays decreased by -5.5% to X units, falling for the fourth year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 198% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, relay imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 46%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X units) represented the major importer of relays, comprising 68% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X units). All these countries together took near 24% share of total imports. The following importers - Turkmenistan (X units) and Mongolia (X units) - together made up 7% of total imports.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+9.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +9.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Mongolia (-4.4%), Turkmenistan (-6.9%) and Uzbekistan (-23.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +19 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest relay importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Turkmenistan ($X), together accounting for 93% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +21.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, growing by 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 77% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
