Exports in Central Asia
Non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports declined rapidly to X tons in 2021, reducing by -79.4% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 1,241%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 472% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the two major exporters of roasted coffee (not decaffeinated), namely Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +32.1%).
In value terms, the largest non-decaffeinated roasted coffee supplying countries in Central Asia were Uzbekistan ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X).
Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +18.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 47% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 623%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+4.8%).
Non-Decaffeinated Roasted Coffee Imports
Imports in Central Asia
Non-decaffeinated roasted coffee imports rose significantly to X tons in 2021, surging by 14% on the year before. In general, imports showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 40%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 68% of total imports. Mongolia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Uzbekistan (9.3%) and Kyrgyzstan (6.5%). Turkmenistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mongolia (+35.5%), Uzbekistan (+21.1%), Turkmenistan (+20.1%) and Kyrgyzstan (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +35.5% from 2012-2021. While the share of Mongolia (+9 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-2.9 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (-9.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported roasted coffee (not decaffeinated) in Central Asia, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mongolia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with an 11% share.
In Kazakhstan, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee imports increased at an average annual rate of +10.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (+30.0% per year) and Uzbekistan (+22.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 4.5% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Mongolia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) and Turkmenistan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
