In value terms, saturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 2,836%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Kazakhstan (X tons) represented roughly 100% of total exports in 2022.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the saturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports, with a CAGR of +30.8% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest saturated acyclic hydrocarbons supplier in Central Asia.

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, falling by -47.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 36%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, overseas purchases of saturated acyclic hydrocarbons were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, saturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 153% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Kyrgyzstan (X tons) was the key importer of saturated acyclic hydrocarbons, committing 73% of total imports. Mongolia (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (8.6%) and Uzbekistan (5%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to saturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports into Kyrgyzstan stood at +22.5%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+68.1%) and Kazakhstan (+18.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +68.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Mongolia (-17.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kyrgyzstan (+63 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+7 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mongolia saw its share reduced by -74.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X), Mongolia ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 89% of total imports. These countries were followed by Uzbekistan, which accounted for a further 9.4%.

Among the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +57.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -46.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (+6.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
