Exports in Central Asia
In 2021, the amount of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) exported in Central Asia declined remarkably to X units, with a decrease of -44.3% against the previous year. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 603%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, semiconductor LED exports fell remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 3,158% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 72% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X units), mixing up a 22% share of total exports. Mongolia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+54.1%) and Mongolia (+8.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +54.1% from 2012-2021. While the share of Kyrgyzstan (+21 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Mongolia (-1.7 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (-20.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) emerged as the largest semiconductor LED supplier in Central Asia, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.
In Kazakhstan, semiconductor LED exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+61.5% per year) and Mongolia (-24.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, surging by 23% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 503%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Mongolia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs), when their volume decreased by -43.4% to X units. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 248% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2020, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
In value terms, semiconductor LED imports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 208%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Uzbekistan represented the major importing country with an import of about X units, which finished at 58% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X units) took a 30% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mongolia (11%).
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +96.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest semiconductor LED importing markets in Central Asia were Uzbekistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Mongolia ($X), together accounting for 98% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +73.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 48%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Mongolia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (-7.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
