The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 10%. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X kg per head. In 2022, approx. X heads of animals slaughtered for sheepskin and lambskin production in Central Asia; surging by 4.2% against the previous year. In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of sheep or lamb skins (without wool), when their volume decreased by -31.8% to X tons. Overall, exports recorded a dramatic setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 73%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 115% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Turkmenistan dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 91% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), generating a 4.6% share of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Turkmenistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sheep or lamb skins (without wool) exports, with a CAGR of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022. Kazakhstan (-31.0%) and Kyrgyzstan (-47.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkmenistan increased by +87 percentage points.

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a sharp curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 439% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, faced a precipitous decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 360%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Kyrgyzstan was the key importer of sheep or lamb skins (without wool) in Central Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 83% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), committing a 17% share of total imports.
