In 2022, supplies from abroad of shelled walnuts increased by 29% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Kyrgyzstan was the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 84% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), generating a 13% share of total imports. The following importers - Turkmenistan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - each accounted for a 3.2% share of total imports.

Imports into Kyrgyzstan increased at an average annual rate of +120.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+474.5%) and Turkmenistan (+66.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +474.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-2.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan increased by +84, +1.6 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported shelled walnuts in Central Asia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkmenistan, with a 6% share.
