The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 868%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, silicon dioxide exports reduced markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 699%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 98% of total exports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the silicon dioxide exports, with a CAGR of +63.5% from 2012 to 2021. Uzbekistan (-98.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+96 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest silicon dioxide supplier in Central Asia, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

In Kazakhstan, silicon dioxide exports expanded at an average annual rate of +56.9% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 81% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 294% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+22,500.0%).

Imports in Central Asia

Silicon dioxide imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, picking up by 27% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 209% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, silicon dioxide imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 131%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan represented the major importer of silicon dioxide in Central Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 70% of total imports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kyrgyzstan (6.8%). Mongolia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the silicon dioxide imports, with a CAGR of +10.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+8.4%), Mongolia (+4.2%) and Kyrgyzstan (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Uzbekistan (+19 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -2.1%, -7.2% and -9.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported silicon dioxide in Central Asia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 27% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 9.2% share.

In Kazakhstan, silicon dioxide imports increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+6.6% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+11.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 5.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+8.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
