Sleeping Bag Market Size in Central Asia

After two years of growth, the Central Asian sleeping bag market decreased by -4.6% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the market value increased by 6%. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, sleeping bag exports in Central Asia reduced dramatically to X units, dropping by -54% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 2,753%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sleeping bag exports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 605%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Kazakhstan represented the key exporter of sleeping bags in Central Asia, with the volume of exports amounting to X units, which was near 71% of total exports in 2021. Mongolia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Kyrgyzstan (12%).

Exports from Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +38.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+54.4%) and Mongolia (+25.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +54.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of Kazakhstan (+10 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+7.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Mongolia (-18.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) emerged as the largest sleeping bag supplier in Central Asia, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +27.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kyrgyzstan (+56.3% per year) and Mongolia (+18.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 121% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 173%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, supplies from abroad of sleeping bags increased by 34% to X units, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 283% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, sleeping bag imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 322%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan dominates imports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 88% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mongolia (X units), achieving a 7.2% share of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sleeping bags imports, with a CAGR of +18.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mongolia (+6.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-11.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+26 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan saw its share reduced by -5.9% and -20.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sleeping bags in Central Asia, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mongolia ($X), with a 6.4% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan stood at +20.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (+3.9% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-30.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, declining by -4.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced curtailment.
