In 2021, overseas shipments of soap in different forms decreased by -20.5% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports faced a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 173%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, soap in different forms exports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 82%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Uzbekistan (X tons) represented the main exporter of soap in different forms, constituting 65% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Turkmenistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons), together making up a 34% share of total exports.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the soap in different forms exports, with a CAGR of +15.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Turkmenistan (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+65 p.p.), Turkmenistan (+22 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+2 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest soap in different forms supplying countries in Central Asia were Uzbekistan ($X), Turkmenistan ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), together comprising 98% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +18.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 115% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkmenistan (+7.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

Soap in different forms imports shrank markedly to X tons in 2021, declining by -33.8% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 162% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, soap in different forms imports fell rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a temperate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 138%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together mixing up 73% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Tajikistan (X tons), Mongolia (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 27% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mongolia (with a CAGR of +12.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest soap in different forms importing markets in Central Asia were Uzbekistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Mongolia ($X), with a combined 80% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Mongolia, with a CAGR of +14.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 19% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a noticeable slump. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
