Soups Market Size in Central Asia

In 2021, the Central Asian soups market increased by 16% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Soups Production in Central Asia

In value terms, soups production shrank modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 32% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Central Asia

In 2021, shipments abroad of soups and broths decreased by -25% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 119%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, soups exports expanded to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 103% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the key exporter of soups and broths, comprising 79% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Mongolia (X tons), mixing up an 18% share of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to soups exports from Kazakhstan stood at +26.0%. At the same time, Mongolia (+64.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +64.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-10.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kazakhstan and Mongolia increased by +24 and +17 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest soups supplier in Central Asia, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mongolia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan stood at +18.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (+63.7% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-19.6% per year).

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 38% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of soups and broths decreased by -20.1% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, soups imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 15%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the key importer of soups and broths, creating 42% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Tajikistan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons), Mongolia (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together creating a 56% share of total imports. Turkmenistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +9.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest soups importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Mongolia ($X), with a combined 75% share of total imports.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +19.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
