Soybean Oil Market Size in Central Asia

The Central Asian soybean oil market shrank notably to $X in 2022, which is down by -23.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

Soybean oil exports soared to X tons in 2022, jumping by 36% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 166% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, soybean oil exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 139%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the key exporter of soybean oil in Central Asia, generating 99.9% of total export.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the soybean oil exports, with a CAGR of +6.6% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest soybean oil supplier in Central Asia.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.

Imports in Central Asia

Soybean oil imports fell markedly to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -23.9% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 98% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, soybean oil imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Tajikistan (X tons), distantly followed by Mongolia (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons) were the major importers of soybean oil, together constituting 96% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +34.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Tajikistan ($X), Mongolia ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 91% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +34.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Mongolia ($X per ton), while Turkmenistan ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
