The Central Asian sparkling wine market declined sharply to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -17.9% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. In 2022, approx. X litres of sparkling wine were exported in Central Asia; with an increase of 51% on 2021. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 498%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, sparkling wine exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 608% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan dominates exports structure, recording X litres, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X litres), constituting a 6.6% share of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sparkling wine exports, with a CAGR of +613.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+71.8%) and Kyrgyzstan (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Uzbekistan (+91 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+5.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-95.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) emerged as the largest sparkling wine supplier in Central Asia, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

In Uzbekistan, sparkling wine exports increased at an average annual rate of +536.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+57.4% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+3.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per litre in 2022, with a decrease of -13.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 61%. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per litre), while Uzbekistan ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, approx. X litres of sparkling wine were imported in Central Asia; which is down by -8.7% compared with the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +27.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X litres in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, sparkling wine imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 122% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan was the major importer of sparkling wine in Central Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X litres, which was near 78% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mongolia (X litres), making up a 12% share of total imports. The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X litres), Uzbekistan (X litres) and Turkmenistan (X litres) - together made up 9.7% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sparkling wine imports into Kazakhstan stood at +1.6%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+68.6%), Turkmenistan (+14.1%) and Kyrgyzstan (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +68.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Mongolia (-1.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+3.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mongolia saw its share reduced by -3.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sparkling wine in Central Asia, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mongolia ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 4.1% share.

In Kazakhstan, sparkling wine imports increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (+4.5% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+3.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per litre in 2022, reducing by -18.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 58% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per litre, and then fell notably in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Uzbekistan ($X per litre) and Turkmenistan ($X per litre), while Kazakhstan ($X per litre) and Kyrgyzstan ($X per litre) were amongst the lowest.
