For the fifth year in a row, the Central Asian spice market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption saw strong growth. The level of consumption peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Spice Production in Central Asia

In value terms, spice production contracted remarkably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by X%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Uzbekistan (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together accounting for X% of total production.

In value terms, spice exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Uzbekistan dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to spice exports from Uzbekistan stood at X%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (X%) and Tajikistan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
