Uzbekistan was the main exporter of spinach in Central Asia, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), comprising a 10% share of total exports.

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -29.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 156%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of spinach, when their volume increased by 361% to X tons. In general, imports recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 4,401%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, spinach imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw buoyant growth. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which resulted at 64% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a 27% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mongolia (9.3%).
Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +14.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+16.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +16.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Mongolia (-34.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia increased by +27 and +9.3 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported spinach in Central Asia, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 23% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan totaled +13.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kyrgyzstan (+27.8% per year) and Mongolia (-34.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 235% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 649% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton.
