Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 250%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, stranded wire exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 334%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Kazakhstan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons), together recording 100% of total export.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +27.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) emerged as the largest stranded wire supplier in Central Asia, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.
In Uzbekistan, stranded wire exports increased at an average annual rate of +63.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+10.2% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+25.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 128% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a buoyant increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+36.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of stranded wire, ropes and cables increased by 4.1% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, stranded wire imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan was the key importer of stranded wire, ropes and cables in Central Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 52% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), Mongolia (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together achieving a 43% share of total imports. Turkmenistan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Kazakhstan decreased at an average annual rate of -1.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+15.6%) and Tajikistan (+7.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +15.6% from 2012-2021. Mongolia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-5.8%) and Turkmenistan (-14.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +21 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Mongolia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 86% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +18.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 16% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Mongolia ($X per ton) and Tajikistan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
