Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer exports dropped slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Kazakhstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) dominates exports structure, together creating 97% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +30.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer supplier in Central Asia, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 28% share of total exports.

In Kazakhstan, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (+30.4% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-0.9% per year).

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The second position in the ranking was held by Mongolia ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 13% share.

In Kazakhstan, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer imports declined by an average annual rate of -2.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mongolia (+3.8% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+1.6% per year).
