Exports in Central Asia
In 2022, approx. X litres of sugary soft drinks were exported in Central Asia; increasing by 81% on 2021 figures. In general, exports recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 158%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sugary soft drink exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate buoyant growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan dominates exports structure, resulting at X litres, which was approx. 88% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X litres), comprising a 7.3% share of total exports. The following exporters - Tajikistan (X litres) and Kyrgyzstan (X litres) - together made up 4.9% of total exports.
Exports from Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +20.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tajikistan (+68.8%) and Uzbekistan (+51.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +68.8% from 2012-2022. Kyrgyzstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan increased by +7.3 and +3.2 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest sugary soft drink supplier in Central Asia, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 3.3% share.
In Kazakhstan, sugary soft drink exports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+69.6% per year) and Tajikistan (+61.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per litre, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 61%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per litre), while Kazakhstan ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+11.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia
Sugary soft drink imports skyrocketed to X litres in 2022, growing by 22% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 248%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sugary soft drink imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 192%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the major importing country with an import of about X litres, which resulted at 56% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X litres) and Uzbekistan (X litres), together generating a 40% share of total imports. The following importers - Tajikistan (X litres) and Mongolia (X litres) - each reached a 3.7% share of total imports.
Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +31.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+64.8%), Kyrgyzstan (+14.7%), Mongolia (+1.4%) and Tajikistan (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +64.8% from 2012-2022. While the share of Kazakhstan (+32 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+16 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Mongolia (-7.6 p.p.), Tajikistan (-9.9 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (-15.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sugary soft drinks in Central Asia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 17% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +25.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+14.0% per year) and Uzbekistan (+61.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per litre in 2022, surging by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per litre), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
