Exports in Central Asia
In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of unvulcanised rubber, when their volume decreased by -42.2% to X tons. In general, exports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 168%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined significantly in the following year.
In value terms, unvulcanised rubber exports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 120%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Uzbekistan (X tons) was the largest exporter of unvulcanised rubber, committing 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X kg), constituting a 29% share of total exports.
Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the unvulcanised rubber exports, with a CAGR of +30.8% from 2012 to 2021. Kazakhstan (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +71 percentage points.
In value terms, the largest unvulcanised rubber supplying countries in Central Asia were Uzbekistan ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X).
Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +32.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 26% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 115% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+1.2%).
Unvulcanised Rubber Imports
Imports in Central Asia
After two years of growth, purchases abroad of unvulcanised rubber decreased by -12.9% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 426% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, unvulcanised rubber imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a notable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 421%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together creating 94% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Mongolia (X tons), making up a 4.7% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +43.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported unvulcanised rubber in Central Asia, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 19% share of total imports.
In Kazakhstan, unvulcanised rubber imports declined by an average annual rate of -1.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+35.5% per year) and Mongolia (+22.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 37% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (-1.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
