Exports by Country
Kazakhstan was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 80% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), comprising a 20% share of total exports.
Exports from Kazakhstan decreased at an average annual rate of -8.9% from 2012 to 2022. Uzbekistan (-1.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+20 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -20.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest zinc supplier in Central Asia, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.
In Kazakhstan, zinc exports contracted by an average annual rate of -3.5% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 21% against the previous year. Export price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, zinc export price increased by +57.2% against 2020 indices. Imports in Central Asia
For the third consecutive year, Central Asia recorded decline in purchases abroad of zinc, unwrought (not alloyed), which decreased by -50.6% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 729%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, zinc imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 802%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together achieving 97% of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +76.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Tajikistan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 98% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +85.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 29% against the previous year. Import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, zinc import price increased by +103.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
