In 2022, overseas purchases of upholstered seats with wooden frames increased by 9.1% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 50%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wooden frame upholstered seat imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +71.7% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Kazakhstan represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which reached 64% of total imports. Mongolia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Uzbekistan (X units) and Turkmenistan (X units). All these countries together held near 28% share of total imports. Tajikistan (X units) and Kyrgyzstan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to wooden frame upholstered seat imports into Kazakhstan stood at -4.8%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+30.9%), Tajikistan (+12.8%), Mongolia (+4.0%) and Turkmenistan (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +30.9% from 2012-2022. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported upholstered seats with wooden frames in Central Asia, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkmenistan ($X), with a 9.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 9.3% share.

In Kazakhstan, wooden frame upholstered seat imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkmenistan (+2.9% per year) and Uzbekistan (+22.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 2.4% against the previous year. Import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, wooden frame upholstered seat import price decreased by -4.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 29%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per unit), while Mongolia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
