In 2021, overseas shipments of vehicles not mechanically propelled increased by 138% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 1,052% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, non-propelled vehicle exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 645% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan prevails in exports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 86% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X units), making up an 8.9% share of total exports. Mongolia (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-propelled vehicle exports from Kazakhstan stood at +35.9%. At the same time, Mongolia (+37.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +37.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-25.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+8.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -6.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest non-propelled vehicle supplier in Central Asia, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +22.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (-40.5% per year) and Mongolia (+33.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, growing by 4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 190% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Mongolia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (-3.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, approx. X units of vehicles not mechanically propelled were imported in Central Asia; surging by 36% against 2020. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +93.2% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the major importer of vehicles not mechanically propelled in Central Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was near 71% of total imports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by Tajikistan (5.7%) and Turkmenistan (5%). Mongolia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+40.4%) and Tajikistan (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +40.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mongolia (-7.1%) and Turkmenistan (-12.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (+23 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+15 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Mongolia (-5.5 p.p.) and Turkmenistan (-28.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported vehicles not mechanically propelled in Central Asia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 26% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkmenistan, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan stood at +6.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+15.9% per year) and Turkmenistan (-9.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
