Glass Fiber Market Size in Central Asia

In 2021, the Central Asian glass fiber market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, glass fiber production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Central Asia

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers increased by 31% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 3,564% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, glass fiber exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 342%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 98% of total exports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers exports, with a CAGR of +16.1% from 2012 to 2021. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Uzbekistan (+98 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -98.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest glass fiber supplier in Central Asia, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.

In Uzbekistan, glass fiber exports expanded at an average annual rate of +17.7% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 206%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+13.0%).

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, purchases abroad of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, glass fiber imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 12%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the largest importer of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers, comprising 56% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Kyrgyzstan (13%) and Mongolia (6.9%). Tajikistan (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to glass fiber imports into Kazakhstan stood at -1.1%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+21.7%), Mongolia (+13.8%), Kyrgyzstan (+10.4%) and Tajikistan (+9.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +21.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkmenistan (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+19 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+5.6 p.p.) and Mongolia (+4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -3.3% and -26.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers in Central Asia, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan amounted to -5.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+18.6% per year) and Mongolia (+11.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 7.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 14%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (-2.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
