Wadding Market Size in Central Asia

The Central Asian wadding market surged to $X in 2021, jumping by 36% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +77.3% against 2017 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Wadding Production in Central Asia

In value terms, wadding production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Central Asia

Wadding exports declined significantly to X tons in 2021, reducing by -71.8% against the previous year. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 31,993%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wadding exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 3,583%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2021. Turkmenistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Uzbekistan decreased at an average annual rate of -29.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Turkmenistan (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkmenistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +2.7% from 2012-2021. While the share of Uzbekistan (+96 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkmenistan (-74 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest wadding supplier in Central Asia, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkmenistan ($X), with a 4.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Uzbekistan amounted to +14.3%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 355% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild descent. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+62.1%).

Wadding Imports

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, approx. X tons of wadding were imported in Central Asia; waning by -25.1% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wadding imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 47%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan represented the largest importer of wadding in Central Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 45% of total imports in 2021. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (21%) and Mongolia (6.7%). Tajikistan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +78.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest wadding importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X), together accounting for 92% of total imports.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +94.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a temperate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 62% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
