In 2022, the amount of welded and cold-formed sections of steel exported in Central Asia declined significantly to X tons, shrinking by -77.5% compared with the previous year's figure. In 2022, overseas purchases of welded and cold-formed sections of steel increased by 43% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 197%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, welded and cold-formed steel sections imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 150% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the major importers of welded and cold-formed sections of steel in 2022, accounting for approx. 36% and 34% of total imports, respectively. Uzbekistan (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, distantly followed by Turkmenistan (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 29% share of total imports.
