After two years of decline, the Central Asian wooden frame market increased by 13% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible reduction. Wooden frame exports dropped notably to X units in 2021, declining by -54.1% on the year before. Overall, exports showed a mild decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 1,734%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wooden frame exports shrank notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 1,657%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Kazakhstan represented the main exporter of wooden frames for paintings, photographs, mirrors or similar objects in Central Asia, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was approx. 73% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X units), comprising a 22% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, growing by 40% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a prominent increase. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wooden frame imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 103%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X units) represented the largest importer of wooden frames for paintings, photographs, mirrors or similar objects, constituting 76% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Turkmenistan (X units), creating a 10% share of total imports. The following importers - Tajikistan (X units), Uzbekistan (X units), Mongolia (X units) and Kyrgyzstan (X units) - together made up 14% of total imports.

Uzbekistan (+3.9 p.p.) and Mongolia (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -5.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wooden frames for paintings, photographs, mirrors or similar objects in Central Asia, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkmenistan ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 5.7% share.
