In value terms, woolen fabric exports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 1,035% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kyrgyzstan (X square meters) represented the major exporters of woven woolen fabrics in 2021, amounting to near 0% and 96% of total exports, respectively. Kyrgyzstan (X square meters) took a 96% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (3.5%). Kazakhstan (X square meters) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, woolen fabric exports from expanded with a Kyrgyzstan of +1.0%, while Mongolia (-11.4%) experienced a abrupt descent unchanged over the same period. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-17.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kyrgyzstan (+18 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-14.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) emerged as the largest woolen fabric supplier in Central Asia, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 9.2% share of total exports.
In Kyrgyzstan, woolen fabric exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per square meter in 2021, declining by -61.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 235% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per square meter), while Kyrgyzstan amounted to $X per square meter.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (-1.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia
In 2021, overseas purchases of woven woolen fabrics were finally on the rise to reach X square meters after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 94%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, woolen fabric imports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 44%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Uzbekistan (X square meters) and Kazakhstan (X square meters) were the major importers of woven woolen fabrics in Central Asia, together committing 58% of total imports. Mongolia (X square meters) held a 9% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kyrgyzstan (22%), Turkmenistan (7.1%) and Uzbekistan (22%). Kyrgyzstan (X square meters) and Tajikistan (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +35.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest woolen fabric importing markets in Central Asia were Uzbekistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Mongolia ($X), together accounting for 77% of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, which together accounted for a further 23%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +32.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Central Asia stood at $X per square meter in 2021, falling by -14.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per square meter in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per square meter), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
