Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wrapping papers exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan represented the major exporter of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard in Central Asia, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 56% of total exports in 2021. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 28% share, followed by Kazakhstan (16%).

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard exports, with a CAGR of +73.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+22.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 57% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 95%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. In 2021, the amount of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard imported in Central Asia stood at X tons, growing by 4.8% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, wrapping papers imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 39%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Mongolia (X tons) represented the largest importer of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard in Central Asia, comprising 93% of total import. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), constituting a 4.7% share of total imports.
