Exports in Central Asia

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of x-ray generators decreased by -33.3% to X kg in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 536% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X kg in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, x-ray generator exports expanded notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 349%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan prevails in exports structure, resulting at X kg, which was near 83% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mongolia (X kg) and Kyrgyzstan (X kg), together creating a 13% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Kazakhstan decreased at an average annual rate of -9.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mongolia (+11.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mongolia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +11.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-21.5%) and Uzbekistan (-51.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Uzbekistan increased by +6.9, +5.8 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest x-ray generator supplier in Central Asia, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mongolia ($X), with a 2.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 2.8% share.

In Kazakhstan, x-ray generator exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mongolia (+18.2% per year) and Uzbekistan (-54.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 60% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 75% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+9.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of x-ray generators, when their volume decreased by -30% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 206% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, x-ray generator imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 160% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Kazakhstan prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 75% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkmenistan (X tons), Mongolia (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons), together making up a 20% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to x-ray generator imports into Kazakhstan stood at +10.1%. At the same time, Tajikistan (+21.1%), Uzbekistan (+14.7%), Mongolia (+4.5%) and Turkmenistan (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of +21.1% from 2012-2021. While the share of Kazakhstan (+5.3 p.p.), Tajikistan (+3.8 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+3.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Mongolia (-3.1 p.p.) and Turkmenistan (-5.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported x-ray generators in Central Asia, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tajikistan ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan totaled +18.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tajikistan (+28.5% per year) and Mongolia (+8.6% per year).
