Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 790%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of animal fats and oils decreased by -53.1% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 1,750% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, animal fats imports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 906%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Argentina (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of animal fats to Chile, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, animal fats imports from Argentina exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Peru (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Malaysia (X tons), with a 9.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Argentina stood at +46.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (+142.2% per year) and Malaysia (+32.6% per year).

In value terms, Argentina ($X) constituted the largest supplier of animal fats and oils to Chile, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Argentina amounted to +37.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (+87.6% per year) and Malaysia (+92.4% per year).

The average animal fats import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 21% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
