Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chlorides exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a sharp setback. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Peru (X tons) was the main destination for chlorides exports from Chile, with a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, chlorides exports to Peru exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ecuador (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Argentina (X tons), with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Peru stood at +3.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (-18.8% per year) and Argentina (+162.4% per year).

In value terms, Peru ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) exports from Chile, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ecuador ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Peru totaled +14.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (-2.7% per year) and Argentina (+167.3% per year).

The average chlorides export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 98%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nicaragua ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+21.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Chile

For the third year in a row, Chile recorded growth in supplies from abroad of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride), which increased by 28% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports posted a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 54%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chlorides imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate pronounced growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 40%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest chlorides supplier to Chile, with a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, chlorides imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Argentina (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Denmark (X tons), with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Argentina (+14.3% per year) and Denmark (+201.8% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) to Chile, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 9.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Argentina (+11.9% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+34.5% per year).

In 2021, the average chlorides import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 8.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 22%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
