Moreover, cocoa powder with sugar exports to Ecuador exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bolivia (X tons), threefold. Venezuela (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Ecuador totaled +7.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bolivia (+115.3% per year) and Venezuela (+22.5% per year).

In value terms, Ecuador ($X) remains the key foreign market for cocoa powder (containing added sugar) exports from Chile, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bolivia ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Venezuela, with a 12% share.

For the third year in a row, Chile recorded decline in purchases abroad of cocoa powder (containing added sugar), which decreased by -5.8% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports showed a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cocoa powder with sugar imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 132% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X.
