In 2021, the Chilean copper pipe and fitting market was finally on the rise to reach $X after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, copper pipe and fitting exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Peru (X tons) were the main destinations of copper pipe and fitting exports from Chile, with a combined 90% share of total exports. Japan, Bolivia, the United States, Ecuador and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.4%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Japan (with a CAGR of +85.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), South Korea ($X) and Peru ($X) were the largest markets for copper pipe and fitting exported from Chile worldwide, together accounting for 85% of total exports. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of copper tubes, pipes and fitting increased by 5.5% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +37.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, copper pipe and fitting imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +84.6% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
