Cotton Yarn Market Size in Chile

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Chilean cotton yarn market, when its value decreased by -22% to $X. In general, consumption, however, posted buoyant growth. Peru (X tons) was the main destination for cotton yarn exports from Chile, with a 92% share of total exports. Moreover, cotton yarn exports to Peru exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bolivia (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Brazil (X tons), with a 3.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Peru stood at +8.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bolivia (-25.5% per year) and Brazil (+25.8% per year).

In value terms, Peru ($X) remains the key foreign market for cotton yarn exports from Chile, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bolivia ($X), with a 7.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 1.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Peru amounted to +12.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bolivia (-19.2% per year) and Brazil (+9.4% per year).

The average cotton yarn export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 8.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild setback. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, cotton yarn imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 85%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

India (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main suppliers of cotton yarn imports to Chile, with a combined 89% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +45.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
