The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for baby food exports from Chile, accounting for a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, baby food exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Colombia (X tons), sevenfold. Guatemala (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United Arab Emirates stood at +259.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (+1.9% per year) and Guatemala (-7.1% per year).
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the key foreign market for food preparations for infants exports from Chile, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 6.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United Arab Emirates stood at +264.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (-0.7% per year) and Canada (+61.4% per year).

The average baby food export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Trinidad and Tobago ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of food preparations for infants was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, baby food imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Mexico (X tons) constituted the largest baby food supplier to Chile, with a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, baby food imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ireland (X tons), fourfold. Canada (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico stood at +3.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ireland (+7.8% per year) and Canada (+16.2% per year).
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constituted the largest supplier of food preparations for infants to Chile, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ireland ($X), with a 28% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 2.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Mexico was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ireland (+1.0% per year) and the United States (+7.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average baby food import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -4.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 12%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
