China (X kg) was the main destination for crude glycerol exports from Chile, with a 57% share of total exports. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crude glycerol imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 262% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of crude glycerol to Chile, accounting for a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, crude glycerol imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X tons), twofold. Argentina (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Brazil amounted to +101.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+46.2% per year) and Argentina (+35.9% per year).

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constituted the largest supplier of crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes to Chile, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Brazil totaled +90.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+47.4% per year) and Peru (+110.6% per year).
