Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, polymer ion-exchangers exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 881% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of ion-exchangers based on synthetic or natural polymers in primary forms, when their volume decreased by less than 0.1% to X tons. Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +62.3% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 88%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

In value terms, polymer ion-exchangers imports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 120%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of polymer ion-exchangers to Chile, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, polymer ion-exchangers imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), threefold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.7% share.
