Self-Propelled Bulldozer Market Size in Chile

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Chilean self-propelled bulldozer market, when its value increased by 148% to $X. In general, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. Self-propelled bulldozer consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of self-propelled bulldozers and excavators increased by 10% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 194% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, self-propelled bulldozer exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 107%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Bolivia (X units) was the main destination for self-propelled bulldozer exports from Chile, accounting for a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, self-propelled bulldozer exports to Bolivia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Argentina (X units), threefold. Peru (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Bolivia stood at +4.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Argentina (+3.2% per year) and Peru (-15.4% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for self-propelled bulldozer exported from Chile were Bolivia ($X), Peru ($X) and Argentina ($X), with a combined 78% share of total exports. Australia, South Africa and Paraguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

Over the period under review, export price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, self-propelled bulldozer export price increased by +42.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 50% against the previous year. In 2021, overseas purchases of self-propelled bulldozers and excavators increased by 123% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, self-propelled bulldozer imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight setback. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X units) constituted the largest supplier of self-propelled bulldozer to Chile, with a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, self-propelled bulldozer imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X units), with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Brazil stood at +9.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+62.3% per year) and Italy (-12.8% per year).

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constituted the largest supplier of self-propelled bulldozers and excavators to Chile, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with an 8.9% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 6% share.
