Imports into Chile
In 2021, overseas purchases of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates were finally on the rise to reach X cubic meters after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed noticeable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 75% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed strong growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
France (X cubic meters), the United States (X cubic meters) and Bolivia (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates to Chile, with a combined 60% share of total imports. Argentina, Germany, China and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Argentina (with a CAGR of +40.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates to Chile, comprising 58% of total imports.
