Imports into Chile
In 2021, imports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates into Chile soared to X cubic meters, growing by 32% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 212%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at X cubic meters in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, imports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates contracted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 40%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Argentina (X cubic meters), Brazil (X cubic meters) and France (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of imports of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates to Chile, with a combined 73% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the United States, Germany and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +77.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates to Chile, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from France totaled +3.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-9.6% per year) and Germany (+11.9% per year).

In 2021, the average import price for wood residues, pellets and other agglomerates amounted to $X per cubic meter, with a decrease of -34.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 159%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per cubic meter in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Argentina ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Costa Rica (+48.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
