Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -5.5% against 2018 indices. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Brazil (X tons), Australia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main suppliers of wrapping papers imports to Chile, with a combined 28% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Sweden, China, the United States, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Finland, Russia and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 52%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +56.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard to Chile, comprising 17% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with an 8.1% share.
