Aluminium Tube Market Size in China

In 2022, the Chinese aluminium tube market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year declining trend. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Aluminium tube consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of aluminium tubes and pipes, when their volume decreased by -8.5% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 145% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium tube exports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 130% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Thailand (X tons), India (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) were the main destinations of aluminium tube exports from China, with a combined 37% share of total exports. Bangladesh, Vietnam, Malaysia, South Africa, the United States, South Korea, Russia, Indonesia, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by South Africa (with a CAGR of +48.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X), India ($X) and South Korea ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for aluminium tube exported from China worldwide, with a combined 33% share of total exports. Bangladesh, Mexico, the United States, Vietnam, South Africa, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.

Among the main countries of destination, South Africa, with a CAGR of +46.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aluminium tube export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into China

In 2022, approx. X tons of aluminium tubes and pipes were imported into China; falling by -33.9% compared with the previous year. In general, imports saw a sharp slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 50%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium tube imports declined notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 39%.
